About The Material These Picks Are Made From:

Plectrums made from stone have been used traditionally throughout the world since the dawn of stringed instruments millennia ago. Jasper is an aggregate form of microgranular quartz crystal and chalcedony with up to 20% of the stone being composed of varying mineral inclusions. Jasper is generally mostly opaque and can appear in almost any color, but is most commonly found in red, yellow, brown, green or occasionally blue. Jasper can feature a wide range of colors with respect to its inclusions as well, with the secondary minerals found within it determining the color. It is found in hydrothermal reefs, volcanic rocks, and sedimentary rocks. Jasper’s name originates from the Greek word iaspis, which means spotted or speckled stone.

Jasper has been used by humans since ancient times, and has been valued for its aesthetic qualities as well as its healing and metaphysical properties for thousands of years. Jasper was a favorite gemstone in antiquity, and was used by the Ancient Greeks, Persians, Assyrians, Arabs, Minoans, and others. Civilizations all around the world prize Jasper for use in jewelry, beads, seals, vases, amulets, rings, and other ornaments.

Leopard Skin Jasper is a popular gemstone which is known for its remarkable spot inclusions. Leopard Skin Jasper can occur in many colors, but is most often various shades of orange, red, beige, green, or other earth tones. The inclusions are generally a combination of spots and lines, often in similar hues to the main body of the stone, but can also include black, grey, or other colors. Leopard Skin Jasper is also sometimes referred to as Jaguar Stone, The Stone of Courage, The Stone of Wisdom, or other names. Although Leopard Skin Jasper has jasper in its common name, most varieties are officially classified by modern science as rhyolite, which has a slightly different composition and method of formation compared to a true jasper. Rhyolite is formed rather quickly during explosive volcanic eruptions, whereas true jaspers are formed in less extreme conditions over a longer period of time. Jaguar Skin Jasper appears in multiple parts of the world including Mexico, Brazil, Peru, and parts of Africa.

Leopard Skin Jasper is a hard and durable stone, with a 6.5-7 rating on the Mohs hardness scale, which makes it a fantastic and long lasting material for use in guitar picks.
